Kamal-Sri Devi

Prabhu Deva and Simran have been signed on to play the lead role in the romance drama Kamal Sridevi, which will be directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth. The pair will be reuniting on screen after 27 years. The title makes reference to the iconic on-screen pairing of Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, two of the most talented stars of Tamil cinema who shared the screen in films like Pathinaaru Vayadhiniley, Guru, Vaazhvey Maayam, Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu and Moondraam Pirrai.

The film also stars Mithun Jai Shankar (Mandaadi) and Smeha Manimegali (Maargan)

Kamal-Sreedevi will be directed by debutante Krishnanand Kottapattu and will have music by G.V. Prakash Kumar.

K.S. Ravikmar to return as director

K.S. Ravikumar’s last direct Tamil directorial was Rajinikanth’s Lingaa, which released all of twelve years ago. Since then, he has produced two films and played important roles in more than 35 films. His next directorial will feature music by G.V. Prakash Kumar. The lead actor and other details  will be announced this Deepavali.

STR gets ready for his 50^th film

Silambarasan TR is currently completing shooting for the film Arasan which sees him share the screen with Vijay SEthupathy in a film directed by Vettrimaaran (Viduthalai 1 & 2, Vada Chennai and Asuran). This action drama will feature music by Anirudh Ravichander.

He will also play a cameo role in Suriya’s upcoming film, Scene which also has Naslen and Nazriya Nazim in the cast. The film is directed by Jithu Madhavan in his Tamil debut.

STR also has projects under directors Ashwath Marimuthu (Oh My Kadavule and Dragon), A.R. Murugadoss (Madrasi & Ghajini) and Keerthiswaran (Dude).

The film with Keerthiswaran sees STR play a policeman and is likely to be mark STR’s 50^th film.

Karthik Subbaraj’s next

After the runaway success of Dorothy, writer-director Karthik Subbaraj has been commissioned by Netflix to direct a Netflix original film that will release directly onto OTT. Prabhu Deva, Upendra and Atharva will lead the cast and the film will be based on the traditional art form Puli Aattam.

Maniratnam’s Inji Vellam likely to be be postponed by two weeks

Maniratnam’s Vijay Sethupathi-Sai Pallavi romantic entertainer Inji Vellam was initially planned to be a Pongal 2027 release. With some delays already experienced, the team is now looking at a 29 January release.

The film is a co-production of Lyca Productions and Maniratnam’s Madras Talkies and will feature music by A.R. Rahman.

Jiiva’s 49^th film

Jiiva launched his 49^th film on Monday, 26 October which will be co-proudced by him under the banner of Super Good Films, the company launched by his late father. The co-producer is Sudhan Sundaram of Passion Studios. The film will be directed by Malayalee director Muhammad Musthafa (Kappela and Mura) in his Tamil debut.

The film has been provisionally titled Campbell and will feature Nimisha Sajayan (Chiththa and Jigarthanda Double X) and Angel Maria (Vaazha 2) in the cast.

Dhanush to enter politics?

Dhanush currently has a busy acting schedule. He is gearing up for the release of Om, directed by Amaran-fame Rajkumar Periyasamy, where he shares the screen with Mammooty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela. This film is expected to be released shortly after Deepavali.

He will then commence work on his film with Thamizharasan Pachchamuthu (Lubber Pandhu) after which he has a film for Siruthai Siva.

The whispered rumours of his possible entry into politics has now become a roar with a launch of a formal “fan club” and it seems that the actor will soon make an official announcement soon.

“Sarpatta Parambarai 2” shooting now in progress

Arya reunites with director Pa Ranjith for Sarpatta Parambarai which will be a prequel to the 2021 original which skipped a theatrical release and released directly on Amazon Prime. The prequel also stars Pasupathy, Dushara Vijayan, John Kokken and John Vijay.
