Suriya attempts to regain lost ground

Lokesh Kanagaraj, who was initially set to produce the film Irumbu Kai Mayavi with Suriya and Amir Khan in the lead roles, has now decided to direct the film himself. The big budget movie will be produced by Mythri Movie Makers.

Simbu teams up with Sudha Kongara. Meanwhile, on Saturday 26 April, Suriya announced that his next film will be a Tamil film produced by Sitara Entertainment and directed by Vaathi­-fame director, Venky Atluri. This Friday sees the release of Suriya’s much hyped film, Retro written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj.  

STR teams up with Sudha Kongara

After weeks of speculation, it has now been confirmed that Silambarasan TR will play the lead role in Sudha Kongara’s next directorial. Discussions on this project began in June 2024 even before the finalisation of Parasakthi, Sudha’s project with Sivakarthikeyan. The film is based on the novel Vettai Naaigal written by Naran, and will be a period movie. Further details will be announced soon.

Illaiyaraja inspires launch of new Music Centre

The soil-turning Ceremony for the Maestro Illaiyaraja Centre for Music Learning and Research took place on Saturday, 26 April. The project was announced in the second half of 2024 and is envisioned to be a world-class hub for music education and inter-disciplinary research based on the vast works of Maestro Illaiyaraja. The building will have a spiritually-based design and will be constructed of environmentally friendly materials.

Gautham Vasudev Menon confirms release of Dhuruva Natchathiram

After a delay of more than 12 years, Gautham Vasudev Menon has assured his fans that Dhruva Natchathiram will definitely be releasing this year. Originally launched with Suriya as the lead actor, the project suffered numerous delays before being resurrected with Vikram in the lead role. After completion of the film, it has remained unreleased for more than 18 months. In a recent interview, the film’s director, Gautham Vasudev Menon says that all financial isses related to the release of the film have been sorted out. The film has Vikram, Ritu Varma, Simran, R. Parthiban and Radhika Sarathkumar in the lead roles

Ayalaan wins International award

Sivakarthikeyan’s Ravikumar directorial, Ayalaan, has won the Grand Prix of “Klushants” for Best Technical Achievement in Film and Best Specal Effects at the VI Tsiolkovsky International Film Festival held in the Kaluga region of Russia. The award was received by the Counsellor in the Indian Embassy, Mr Kumar Srivastava.

Soori’s next film is a sea fantasy drama

Soori, whose lead roles in Viduthalai Part 1, Garudan and Kottukaali have seen him become a much sought-after actor, is currently working on the film Maaman. Earlier this month, he confirmed his lead role in the sea fantasy drama, Mandaadi. The film will be directed by newcomer Mathimaran Pugazhendhi. Soori says that the film will highlight a little known water sport – a special type of boat racingSoori’s current film, Maaman, directed by Prashanth Pandiyaraj, will be released theatrically on 16 May 2025.
