Ramarajan began his film career with numerous uncredited roles before making his debut as a director in the 1985 film, Mannuketha Ponnu. His growing friendship with lyricist and music composer, Gangaiamaren led to his first signing as a lead actor in the film Nammu Ooru Nalla Ooru in 1986.
Ramarajan’s biggest hit of his career was Gangaiamaren’s 1991 film Karagaatakaaran which ran for more than 410 days.
He married actress Nalini in 1987 but they went separate ways in the year 2000. After a stint in politics, Ramarajan returned to the screen in the film Saamaniyan, which was a moderate success.
