Remembering the short but impressive career of actress Shoba

Malayalaee actress Mahalakshmi Menon is better known by her screen name, Shoba.

She made her debut as a child actress in the 1968 Tamil film Thattungal Thirakkapaduum, a film directed by actor J.P. Chandrababu.

She bagged the National Award for Best Actress at the tender age of 17 for her brilliant performance in the film Pasi. This was only the beginning, as she soon began quite a collection of awards, including three Kerala state awards and 2 Filmfare awards.

She was married to director Balu Mahendra but committed suicide on 01 May 1980 without leaving a note, prompting dozens of theories about her death. She was only 17 at the time.
