T.A. Prameela was born in Thiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu on 31 August 1956. Her parents hailed from Kerala but they moved to Chennai to enable Prameela to pursue her acting dream.
She made her debut to films in 1968 through the Malayalam, Inspector. In 1972 she made her debut to the Tamil screen through Vazhaiyadi Vazhai but the film was shelved and her debut film became K. Balachander’s 1973 film Arangetram in which Prameela, Jayachithra and Jayasudha made their debut to acting in a film that marked Kamalhaasan’s first adult role. The film brought fame to Prameela in the Tamil field,
Prameela went on to enjoy a successful stint in Tamil cinema while simultaneously acting in Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada movies.
She shared the screen with the legendary Sivaji Ganesan in five films – She starred opposite him in the 1973 film Manitharil Manickam, as his daughter-in-law in Thanga Pathakkam and again opposite him in Kavarimaan and Raktha Paasam. She also played a supporting role in Jallikattu.
Prameela also shared the screen with Kamalhaasan, Rajinikanth, Jaishankar, Sivakumar, Prabhu, Sathyaraj, Karthik and Sarath Babu.
Prameela retired from acting in 1990. She is married to American citizen Paul Schlacta and currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
