Manjula – The actress who made waves from her very first film.

Manjula began her screen career when she was just 15 when she was cast in a supporting role in Shanthi Nilayam with Gemini Ganesan and Kanchana in the lead roles.

Two years later, she made her debut as a lead actress opposite M.G. Ramachandran and the runaway success of this film saw her in great demand in the Tamil and Telugu film fields,

In Tamil, she shared the screen with MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Jaishankar, R. Muthuraman, AVM Rajan, M.K. Muthu and Shrikanth. She also shared the screen with Kamalhaasan, Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, Prabhu, Aravind Swamy, Sivakumar, Karthik, Prabhu Deva, Sarathkumar and Murali.

She controversially married co-actor Vijayakumar in 1976 and they have three daughters – Vanitha, Preethi and Sridevi – all of whom have played the female lead in various films.

Manjula passed away on 21 July 2013 two weeks after her 59th birthday.
