Kavin shot to fame when he played the lead role in the sleeper hit Dada, but he had been making his mark in increasingly visible ways for almost a decade.
After making his acting debut in the TV series Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal, he went on to play supporting roles in the TV shows Thaayumanavan and Saravanan Maaenatchi. In the latter, he was initially introduced as the antagonist but went on to become the show’s protagonist, earning him widespread fame.
Moving to the big screen, he made minor appearances in Pizza and Indru Netru Naalai before going to play a supporting role in Sathriyan. He then played his first lead in Natupna enaanu theriyuma which did not get much recognition.
However, his fame increased exponentially when he participated in Season 3 of Big Boss. He followed this with the successful thriller, Lift and then worked as an assistant director to Nelson Dilipkumar in Sivakarthikeyan’s Doctor. In 2022 he starred in the web series Akash Vaani.
The success of Dada brought him many offers and he chose the dark comedy, Star, as his second venture, winning praise for his performance in this film although it had average commercial success. Eager to expand his versatility, his next film was Bloody Beggar which also had mixed reviews and a modest showing at the box-office.
Kavin’s next film will be Kiss, followed by Mask and Hi.
Kavin married Monica David on 20 August 2023. He turns 35 today.
