RJ-turned-actor Ramesh Thilak turns 40 today. He began his career as a Radio jockey on Suryan FM and rapidly rose to popularity because of his jovial nature that ensured that his shows were lively and humorous. His antics on radio led to him being referred to as Thillu Mullu Ramesh.

He made his acting debut in a television series called Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal on Vijay TV. His portrayal of a character called Azhagesan who preferred to call himself Al Gates was a huge hit among audiences because of the unique brand of humour that Ramesh infused into the role. This led to him being cast in a small role in the short film Mugaputhagam before making his debut to the big screen in an uncredited role in Dhanush’s Mapillai, closely followed by uncredited roles in Ajith Kumar’s Mankatha and Sivakarthikeyan’s debut movie, Marina.

His first credited role on the big screen was Nalan Kumarasamy’s debut directorial, the dark comedy Soodhu Kavvum.

He then made his debut as a lead actor in Vijay Sethupathy’s home production, Orange Mittai, a film that premiered at the Busan International Film Festival.

Ramesh has since gone on to share the screen with, among others, Kamalhaasan, Rajinikanth, Ajith Kumar, Vijay, Karthi, Siddharth, Atharva, Manikandan and Yogi Babu.

Ramesh is also a writer and has written several stories and poems as well as unofficial contributions to film scripts. Ramesh married Navalakshmi, an ex-radio jockey and producer on Suryan FM on 04 March 2018. They have son named Maayan.

Don’t miss Ramesh’s latest film, the heart-warming family comedy, Tourist Family with M. Sasikumar and Simran in the lead roles.
