Lyricist Madhan Karky is yet to complete his 15th year in the film industry, but has already written hundreds of songs, scripted numerous films and continues to push the boundaries of the Tamil language in poetry and lyrics.
The son of multi-award winning lyricist, Vairamuthu, Madhan Karky was born on 10 March 1980. Although not an exception student at school, he took a keen interest in computers and IT. He studied Computer Engineering and was in the news even before completing a degree as he had developed software to convert text to speech in Tamil. This was the first of many innovations in the field of language and innovation that included software for Tamil pronunciation. Tamil spell check and Tamil grammar and syntax rules.
In 2008 Madhan Karky approached director Shankar with some songs he had written. A year later, Karky was on board Rajinikanth’s Enthiran as a lyricist and dialogue writer. Karky’s knowledge of multiple languages and his specialised knowledge of Tamil made him an easy choice for many of the music composers of this period. He also played an integral part in Bahubaali 1 & 2 and has an impressive list of films scripted in Tamil from other languages as well as writing the lyrics of songs in dubbed films. He also penned Tamil cinema’s first palindrome song in the film Vinodan. (Included in our YouTube playlist below)
