Song : Yennai Izhukkuthadi
Film/Album : Kadhalikka Neramillai
Singers : A.R. Rahman & Dhee
Lyricist : Vivek
Music : A.R. Rahman
Impact of the song
This is an energetic, catchy song with strong shades of Irumbile from Endhiran in the Pallavi. The modern beat and catchy rhythm is sure to make this an instant hit, especially among the youth.
Vocal rendition
AR Rahman’s voice lends the song to a distinctive flavour but his enunciation could have been better. Fortunately, the rhythm and percussions mask this quite well. It is good to see Dhee somewhat escape her comfort zone to some extent and this is an exciting addition to her repertoire.
Lyrics
Vivek’s lyrics uses rhythmic repetition with a trendy style that blends together in an interesting mix.
Final Analysis
The catchy percussions and instrumentation in the song dominate the song, with bright interludes that stay within the carefully designed structure of the song. The second half of the Pallavi and the Charanam do not have the same energy of what comes before, but the overall feel of the song obliterates these shortcomings. I think that the song would have sounded better with another male singer, but fans of AR Rahman would obviously disagree. The video is a captivating one, tastefully shot with creative lighting and exciting choreography that shows some snappy moves with Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menen. AR Rahman is also featured prominently in the video as is Dhee. The song will undoubtedly become a hit but I have doubts about its staying power.
