Veteran actor Delhi Ganesh passed away around 23h00 on the night of Saturday, 09 November at the age of 80.
He was introduced to the screen by K. Balachander in the 1976 film, Pattina Pravesam. As he spent some time with a theatre group in Delhi, it was Balachander who first named him Delhi Ganesh.
He soon showed a very positive work ethic and was given a variety of roles from major supporting roles, to comedy and even playing the villain. He also played the lead role in the 1981 film, Engamma Maharani.
He acted alongside all major actors and shared a special on-screen chemistry with Kamalhaasan in a string of films that included Nayagan, Aboorva Sagodharargall, Michael Madhana Kamarajan, Avvai Shanmugi and Thenali.
His other memorable films include memorable characters he played in films like Sindhu Bhiaravi, Anni, Iruvar, Priyamaanavalle and Saamy 1 & 2. His last released film was Indian 2.
Delhi Ganesh served in the Indian Air Force from 1964 to 1974 before pursuing a career in films. A warm, compassionate and sincere gentleman, he was well-liked in the industry. Delhi Ganesh was bestowed with the Kalaimamani Award in 1974.
