The legendary singer and composer Dr K.J. Yesudas turns 86 today. To read the biographical article published on Sigaram on this day last year, please click the link below.
KJ Yesudas turns 85 today
At a time when the recording industry was virtually ruled by T.M.Soundararajan, the success of Yesudas as a playback singer was his ability to stir emotion simply though his voice. This ability stemmed directly from his extensive training in Carnatic music. This ability ensured that he had the choicest songs to sing in each soundtrack, usually ballad-type or lullaby-type songs that got deep into the soul of the listener.
He enjoyed a close relationship with all music composers of his time and a close friendship with his fellow playback singers. Yesudas enjoyed a particularly close friendship with Illaiyaraja. In the following interview with S.P. Balasubramaniyam and K.J. Yesudas, the mutual respect is obvious.
