The Indian film indutsry has suffered another devastating loss.
Iconic playback singer S. Janaki has passed away at the age of 88.
The singer was admitted to Apollo Hospital with undisclosed ailments.
The winner of four national awards and 33 state awards, the singer famously refused to accept India’s third largest civilian order – the Padma Bhushan award -when conferred to her in 2013, stating that the award came too late in her career.
Janaki-Amma started her film career in 1957 and recorded more than 48 000 songs in 20 languages.
