Nagoor Babu was given the name Mano by Isai Nyaani Illaiyaraja who introduced him in the film Poovizhi Vaasaliley. After being criticized for trying to imitate SPB, Mano was persuaded by Illaiyaraja to change his voice for the song Vedhaalam Vandharikkudhu from Soora Samhaaram – a style that he used again to sing the hit song Muquala Muquabalae from Kaadhalan. He made his acting debut in Kamalhassan’s Singaara Velan.
Mano has completed more than 1000 film songs in various languages.
He has also lent his voice to Rajinikanth for the Telugu dubbed versions of the superstar’s films. He has also lent his voice to Kamalhaasan for some of his Telugu dubbed films.
Mano is also an accomplished actor who has starred in 18 films in Tamil and Telugu. His last released film was Ravi Mohan’s Kaadhalikka Neramillai.
Mano has performed in more than 3000 concerts and a judge for TV talent contests like Vijay TV’s Super Singer.
He is married to Jameela and his son, Shakir , played the antagonist in the 2012 film, Naanga.
