Jai Birthday Special

Jai, born on 06 April 1984, is the nephew of music composer, Deva and the cousin of Shrikanth Deva. Roman early age, he has shown an interest in music composition and has been an ardent fan of Yuvanshankar Raja.

Jai was only 18 when he made his film debut in the film Bhagavathi where he played Vijay’s screen brother. He turned down subsequent acting offers and concenetrated on music, playing the keyboard for his uncle, Deva.

Jai’s close friend is Yugendran, the son of playback singer Malaysia Vasudevan. It was Yugendran who suggested to him that he audition for a role in Venkat Prabhu’s debut directorial Chennai 600 028.

This led to him being cast as the lead actor in Sasikumar’s Subramaniapuram ­ – a film which has since gone on to become a cult classic and which earned Jai widespread praise.

Jai’s negative comments about films he was subsequently involved in got him banned from further films. It was only with the intervention of Soundarya Rajinikanth (producer of Venkat Prabhu’s Goa) that Jai was able to return to films, following his rolein Goa with a role in the sleeper hit, Vaamanan.

His role in Aval Peyar Thamizharasi remains one of his most ambitious and effort-filled roles. Then followed a lean period where Jai’s films did not fare well at the box-office, the exceptions being A.R. Murugadoss’s Engaeyum Eppodhum and Saravana Rajan’s directorial debut, Vadacurry.

More box-office failure followed until the release of Chennai 600 028 Part 2. More box-office failures followed, leading him to play the main antagonist in Badri’s psychological thriller, Pattampoochi.

Inspired by Ajith Kumar, Jai entered motor racing and participated in his first race in 2014. He still dreams of making his mark as a music composer and has been working hard to achieve that dream. He has thus far composed songs for Triples, Veerapandiyapuram and Pattampoochi.
