The film and music worlds are reeling from shock about the reported attempted suicide by playback singer Kalpana on Sunday.
Kalpana had gone alone to their Hyderabad residence. When her husband failed to get a response to his calls and texts, he alerted the neighbours who had to break a door to enter. They found Kalpana, unconscious, with a bottle of sleeping pills next to her. She was rushed to hospital. Her husband, who was in Chennai at the time of the incident, immediately rushed over to Hyderabad.
On Wednesday, 05 March she issues a statement refuting the rumours about an attempted suicide, saying that she did take more than the required number of sleeping pills prescribed for insomnia.
Kalpana is the daughter of Telugu playback singer TS Raghavendra. She shot to greater fame after winning the TV reality show, Star Singer, in 2010, although she recorded her first song after being introduced by Illaiyaraja in the film En Rasavin Manasile.
Apart from participating in numerous live shows, Kalpana was also a judge on Vijay TV’s Super Singer.
