Immanuel Vasanth Dinakaran is better known as D.Imman – a music composer who has carved his own path in an industry dominated by giants.
He began his film career at the age of 15, playing the keyboard for music composers Mahesh Madevan and Adithyan. He was then noticed by TV producer (and yesteryear child actress) Kutty Padmini who offered him multiple jobs in the TV industry before offering him his first feature film, Kaadhale Swasam, a film that did not release.
He then scored music for the Vijay starrer, Thamizhan which introduced Priyanka Chopra to the silver screen. The lead pair also sang Ullathai Killathey picturised on themselves.
After scoring music for many films, enjoying the occasional hit songs, his turning point came with the soundtrack of Prabhu Solomon’s debut film, Myna – as both the soundtrack and the film went on to enjoy hit status. His subsequent film for Prabhu Solomon, Kumki won for him multiple awards, including the Tamil Nadu state award for Best Music.
D Imman established himself as a composer willing to experiment with various music styles while still enjoying mass appeal. His 100th film was the Ravi Mohan starrer, Tik Tik Tik.
D Imman became only the fifth Tamil composer to win a national award for Best Music, awarded for his score and soundtrack for Ajithkumar’s Viswasam
Imman has seven soundtracks in various stages of completion. He is also currently a judge on Vijay TV’s Super Singer Junior 10.
