Another international accolade for Kottukaali
Soori’s Kottukaali – also known by its English title, The Adamant Girl – has won the Nativa award at the Alternative Film Festival in Indonesia. This is an award that recognizes films with artistic merit and significant social impact. Kottukaali, directed by PS Vinothraj, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2024. After its Indian theatrical release in August this year, it was screened at the 69th Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain.
Devayani to make her debut as a director
Actress Devayani is to make a directorial debut in a forthcoming short film that will feature music by Illaiyaraja. The project will be formally launched on 16 December 20204. Devayani will soon be seen in an important role in Jayam Ravi’s forthcoming film, Genie and will also play an important role in Siddharth’s in-production 40th film.
96 Sequel has a producer
Dawn Pictures, the producers of Idly Kadai have confirmed that they will be producing the sequel to Premkumar’s debut directorial, 96. The realistic love story has been hailed as the best love story of the millennium and starred Vijay Sethupathy and Trisha in the lead roles. Released in 2018, the film achieved cult status soon after its released. Directed by newcomer C Premkumar, the film was an instant hit. With the runaway success of Premkumar’s second directorial Meiyazhagan, pressure had been mounting on him to announce the sequel to 96. The sequel will see Vijay Sethupathy and Trisha in the lead roles.
Vijay Sethupathy’s Maharaja releases in China
The release of Vijay Sethupathy’s Maharaja in China has generated a lot of interest and excitement. The film was released by the Ali Baba group and earned a staggering 16 crores on the first day. The film stars Vijay Sethupathy and Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap in the lead roles. The supporting cast includes Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abirami and Divya Bharathi.
