Song : Kadhal Fail
Film/Album : Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam
Singers : Dhanush
Lyricist : Dhanush
Music : GV Prakash Kumar
Impact of the song
A catchy song dealing with failed love in a manner that captures the feelings without getting too emotional. The lighting and choreography also lessen the impact of the pathos, making the song even sweeter
Vocal rendition
One cannot help but draw similarities with Why this Kolaveri Di but there is nothing in the tune or structure to suggest this. Dhanush brings character into the song with pitch and range and pulls it off with the finesse of an accomplished singer. The song is deceptively difficult but Dhanush has made the transition in range seem very simple.
Lyrics
Dhanush’s lyrics are written in Thanglish and this adds charm and sweetness to the words. Despite the crossing of languages, he has taken great pains to creating euphonic rhyme in the lines.
Final Analysis
This will undoubtedly soon become a hit song because the sentiments, the way they are expressed and the modern beats and instrumentation should resonate very well with the youth. Despite the modernity, there is a retro feel to some of the instrumentation and parts of the melody. There also seems to be a vague similarity to Aasai Nooru Vagai from Adutha Vaarisu. The strings section in particular present a strong retro flavour, contrasting strongly with the trendy lyrics.
