Anirudh Ravichander is the son of actor Ravi Raghvendra and Bharatha Natyam dancer Mahalakshmi. His maternal grandfather was a music composer and his great grandfather was a well-known film maker in the 1930s, best known for the film Thyagabhoomi which was based on a book by Kalki Krishnamurthy, the author of Ponniyin Selvan. Anirudh’s great grandmother was south India’s first female film music composer. It is therefore no surprise that Anirudh started composing music at the age of 10 and became a film music composer with an international hit by the age of 21.
The composer of India’s first internationally trending song, Why this Kolaveri di, Anirudh soon proved that his repertoire went far beyond the excellence shown in his debut movie, Moonu.
In the soundtrack of Vanakkam Chennai, he introduced to the music and film worlds the talent of Aadhi from Hiphop Thamizha.
He collaborates regularly with other musicians and music composers and happily renders songs for other composers without taking a single rupee as payment.
Anirudh, who turns 35 on 16 October, has won multiple awards. His film assignments include soundtracks for actors like Rajinikanth, Kamalhassan, Ajithkumar, Vijay, Dhanush, Sivakarthikeyan and Vijay Sethupathy. He was voted Most Desirable Man in Chennai in two successive years in 2015 and 2016. In 2016 he signed a contract with Sony Music to produce all his independent albums and live concerts.
He is currently riding a wave of success of recent runaway hits with assignments in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
