Isai Nyaani Illaiyaraja announced on Deepavali Day that his Symphony Number 1 will be released in the United Kingdom on Jan 26, 2025. Illaiyaraja had composed the symphony in April and May of this year.
The symphony is being marketed as the first full symphony by an Indian composer, but music fans will remember that in 1993 Illaiyaraja had written a symphony that was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by the famous British composer, John Scott.
That symphony was never released, so this new Symphony is still aptly named as Symphony Number 1, as it is Illaiyaraja’s first released symphony. Illaiyaraja has scored music for more than 1000 films, recorded more than 8000 songs and performed in more than 20 000 concerts.
Illaiyaraja was given the title Maestro by renowned music composer, John Scott after Scott had conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra playing Illaiyaraja’s first symphony.
