Shamlee is the younger sister of Shalini. She made her acting debut at the age of two in the 1989 Vijayakanth starrer, Rajanadai.
A year later she won the National Award for Best Child Artist as well as a Tamil Nadu State Award in the same category for her role as the mentally challenged child in Mani Ratnam’s Anjali.
In the same year, she won the Kerala stat award for Best Child artist for the Malayalam film Malooty.
Also in 1990, Shamlee won the Karnataka State award for her role in the Kannada film Mathe Haditu Kogile.
These four major awards in one calendar year made her a much sought after child actress and she appeared in numerous films in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.
In 1993 she won the Cinema Express Award for the R. Aravindraj direcYorial, Thanga Papa.
She played the female lead as an adult actress in four films, one of which was the Tamil film Veera Sivaji opposite Vikram Prabhu.
