Nakkhul, the younger brother of actress Devayaani, made his acting debut at the age of 19 in Shankar’s Boys. The lukewarm response to the film did not open many doors for him and he sang a few playback songs that came his way – including songs from Anniyan, Ghajini and vettaiyaadu Villaiyaadu.
Four years after his debut in Boys, Nakkhul land his first lead role in Kaadhalil Vizhunthen. The success of this film led to another lead role in Maasilamani which was also a huge hit.
His next film, Kandhakottai opened to mixed reviews and he had another four-year gap before his next release, Naan Rajavaga Pogiren – which also opened to mixed reviews, but he bounced back with a powerful and critically lauded role in Vallinam.
Nakkhul has had mixed responses to his subsequent movie, enjoying a hit only with Thamizhukku en Ondrai Azhuthavum.
