Versatile actor P Samuthrakani turns 52 today.

P Samuthrakani was born on 26 April 1973. A B.Sc and Bachelor of Law graduate, he joined Sundar K Vijayan (son of K Vijayan) as an assistant director before being chosen by K Balachander as assistant director in Balachander’s 100^th film, Parthale Paravasam.

He started his career as a director by relaunching Cheran’s stalled film, Uyir Nanbanukku before directing S.P. Charan’s Unnai Charanadainthen. He then directed Vijayakanth’s Neranja Manasu before earning fame and recognition in the blockbuster 2009 hit, Nadodigal.

More recognition was to come for the Sasikumar action thriller, Poraali and the emotional dramas Appa and Thondan. His last Tamil film as director was the 2021 film Vinodhaya Sitham.

Apart from his prowess as a director, Samuthrakani has also proven to be a very versatile actor. After uncredited roles in Parthale Parasavasam, Neranju Manasu, Poi and Paruthi Veeran, he made a highly lauded debut in a fully-fledged rule in Subramaniyapuram written and directed by his close friend, M Sasikumar.

He went on to play a variety of roles, including award-winning performances in Easan, Velaiyilaaa Pattathari and Vetrimaran’s Visaranai. His many roles included supporting artist, comedian, drama, lead actor and even the villain, shining effortlessly in each role.

Samuthrakani will undoubtedly continue to delight film fans with his varied roles and endearing personality.
