Writer, director and producer CV Rajendran was born on 12 March 1937 in a rural area close to Madurantakam. His first cousin was maverick producer and director CV Sridhar, the director of hit films like Kalyana Parisu, Kaadhalikka Neramillai and Vennira Aadai.
He made his film debut as an assistant director in the Hindi remake of Sridhar’s Nenjil Ohr Alayam and then became Sridhar’s associate director in the Kalyankumar-Devika starrer, Nenjam Marapathillai. He was also associate director for the films Kaadhalikka neramillai, Nenjil Ohr Alayam and Vennira Aadai. He made his debut as a director in the R.Muthuraman-Rajasree starrer, Anubavam Pudhumai.
He went on to direct many box-office hits in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. In his Tamil films, it was Sivaji Ganesan who was cast in the lead more than any other actor. He has also directed Kamalhaasan, Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, R Muthuraman, Jaishankar, Prabhu and Sathyaraj.
Rajendran was also responsible for introducing Prabhu, son of the legendary Sivaji Ganesan, in the film Sangili.
