The film world is reeling from shock with the sudden passing away of legendary actor, writer, director and music composer K, Bhagyaraj.
K. Bhagyaraj began his career as an assistant to the great Bharathiraja and made his debut as a lead actor opposite Rathi Agnihotri in Pudhiya Vaarpugal and then his debut as a lead actor in Suvarillaatha Sitharangall. His best known as best loved films include Antha 7 Naatkal, Darling Darling Darling, Mundhanai Mudichu and Dhavani Kanavugal.
He has also mentored dozens of writers and directors – including R. Parthiban and R. Pandiarajan and introduced dozens of faces in front of the camera.
With good reason, he was regarded as the best screenplay writer of Tamil cinema, with innovative screenplays like Vidiyumvarai Kaathiru and his reunion with Bharathiraja in Oru Kaidhiyin Diary.
Most of his films were remade into Hindi and he himself directed the Hindi version of Oru Kaidhiyin Diary which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jayapradha and Sridevi.
Bhagyaraj attended the wedding of Khusbu’s daughter yesterday and appeared to be healthy.
He succumbed to cardiac arrest in the early hours of this morning. He is survived by his wife – former actress Poornima (Jayaram), his son Shanthunu and his daughter, Saranya – both of whom have acting history.
