Palanisamy, better known as Sivakumar, was born on 27 October 1941. He made his acting debut in the 1965 film, Kaakkum Karangall and soon co-starred with MGR and Sivaji Ganesan in multiple films before becoming a lead actor.
He won the state award for Best actor for Avan Aval Athu in 1979 and again for the 1982 film, Agni Saatchi. He won the Filmfare Best Actor award twice – one for Rosapoo Ravikaikaari and another for Vandichakkaram.
In 2007 Filmfare awarded him the lifetime achievement award.
He is the father of current actors, Suriya and Karthi. His daughter, Brindha, is a playback singer.
In a career spanning 36 years in films, Sivakumar has acted with three generations of actors and continues to be a highly respected figure in the film industry.
