Eminent producer R.B. Choudary (77), the founder of Super Good Films, passed away earlier today after suffering a heart attack following a road accident.
Choudary was visiting close relatives in Udaipur in Rajasthan when he was involved in a car accident. Although he suffered no physical injuries directly from the accident, the traumatic event triggered a fatal heart attack. At this stage very few details are available of the accident, except that it occurred around 15h00 IST.
Choudary, who hails from Rajasthan, began his career as a producer of Malayalam Films under the banner, Super Films. He then teamed up with his friend, Mohan, who owned the mosquito repellent company, Good Knight. When Choudary went solo, he combined both names into Super Good films, with his first production being Pudhu Vasantham, the directorial debut of Vikraman and a film that won the Filmfare and Tamil Nadu State Awards for Best Film.
Choudary’s impressive filmography includes Sarathkumar’s Captain and Soorya Vamsam, Vijay’s Poove Unakaage, Love Today, Thulladha Manamum Thullum, Shah Jahaan, Thirupaachi and Jilla,, Karthik’s Seenu, Vijayakanth’s Kannupada Poguthaya and Varushamellaam Vassantham.
He also produced the film Anandham which marked the directorial debut of N. Lingusamy.
In 2003 he introduced his younger son, Jiiva, as a lead actor in the film Aasai Aasaiyaai and followed this with Thithikuthey.
His last film as producer was the Fahadh Faasil-Vadivelu starrer, Maareesan which released in 2025.
Choudary is survived by his wife and three sons – two of whom are actors – Jiivaand Jithan Ramesh.
Choudary’s mortal remains will be flown to Chennai for final rites.
