Genelia was born on 05 August 1987 in Bombai (now Mumbai).
Her short but eventful career in Tamil films began with her role as the female lead in Shankar’s 2003 film, Boys.
After her debut to Telugu films and then returning to the Hindi screen, she returned to the Tamil screen to star opposite Vijay in Kalaipuli S Dhanu’s Sachein. Despite releasing on the same day as Rajinikanth’s Chandhramuki, the film went on to do well at the box-office.
A year later she reunited with her Boys co-star Bharath in Chennai Kaadhal, written and directed by Vikraman. Unfortunately, this film failed at the box-office.
After another stint in the Telugu film industry and her introduction to the Kannada screen, Genelia returned to the Tamil screen opposite Ravi Mohan in the blockbuster movie, Santhosh Subramaniam. This was a role that won her multiple awards.
Two years later, she played the lead role opposite Dhanush in Uthamaputhiran . The film, despite some minor controversies after release, was a hit at the box-office.
A year later, Genelia acted in her last Tamil film – Vijay’s Velayudham, which was a moderate box-office success,
She married actor Ritesh Deshmukh on 03 February 2012. They have two sons.
