Vijay Sethupathi’s rise in the film industry is an inspirational one. He first screen appearances were uncredited roles as a background actor, beginning with the Prabhu Deva-Nagma starrer Love Birds and including films like Karthik’s Gokulathil Seedhai, Ravi Mohan’s M Kumaran, Son of Mahalakshmi, Dhanush’s Pudhupettai and Karthi’s Naan Mahaan Alla.

It was his ninth screen appearance that marked his official debut to films in Seenu Ramasamy’s Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, a film that won four national awards and brought recognition to Vijay Sethupathi.

In his third credited film, Sundharpaandiyan, he won the Tamil Nadu state award for Best Villain.

These early awards in his acting career would mark the beginning of many awards, including multiple awards for his roles in Nadhuvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, Pizza, 96 and Super Deluxe.

His ability to portray a wide variety of characters and his willingness to experiment with his roles have been among his many assets. A positive work ethic and humility have further cemented his place in the film industry.

Vijay Sethupathi turns 47 today.
